This is Captain Mac when he was about 10 years old with his very first Flounder. This picture was taken by his Mom right before they prepared the Flounder with stuffed crab meat and his Family (including 5 Brothers) all enjoyed a wonderful dinner!

 Captain Mac Daniel
USCG Licensed Charter Captain

Capt Mac Daniel is a 3rd generation
Native of Amelia Island and the Founder of Flounder Gigging as a Charter Boat Excursion to help others enjoy this recreational, fun fishing activity.
Prior to Capt Mac's founding
of these charters in 2003 the only people who went flounder gigging were private individuals who either walked in the water with lanterns at night or a handful of people with smaller boats who poled along in the shallows at night.
Capt Mac's boat, the Flounder Barge, with his custom-designed air motor allows Capt Mac to accomodate up to six (6) people to flounder gigging at once while floating in only 6" of water along the marshlands, mud flats, oyster shell bars and sand bars, while illuminating the sea bottom like a stadium to reveal the camouflaged outlines of even the largest flounder (which are the most clever of all - that's how they got so big).

In 2003, he obtained a USCG Captains License, built the Flounder Barge, started the Flounder Gigging LLC Corporation, and developed this Flounder Gigging web site to share his adventures with others.
Best of all, there are many other types of fish that we gig in addition to Flounder. These include Sheepshead, Black Drum, Mullet and Bull Whiting.
When asked what is the benefit of flounder gigging he responds with glee "The best part of flounder gigging is you don't have live or dead bait, rods or reels, no tackle to worry about. Flounder Gigging is all visual and it's a great sport."
According to Daniel, "Flounder Gigging around Amelia Island is the most fun I have known you can have on a boat. The visibility of the marine life abounds underneath the custom-built lights of my Flounder Gigging boat."
So if you never have been flounder gigging or not been in a long time you need reserve a Flounder Gigging Adventure!
The exciting sport of FLOUNDER GIGGING is available to anyone! The unique charter fishing activity is fun for all!
USCG Captain Mac Daniel, is a 3rd generation native of Amelia Island, Florida, an accomplished Flounder Gigger. He has gigged flounders up to 19.3 lbs! Right, Capt Mac.
Mac 's love for flounder gigging started at a young age. With money he had made from mowing yards and advice from his Grandfather, he bought his first boat, a 6hp Johnson outboard, from Herb White's Marine in downtown Fernandina Beach. Later, he bought 10' Jon boat from Sears & Roebuck.
Young Mac would pole along the edge of the Amelia River during the evening. He became quite adapt from an early age of spotting flounder with his home-made light set up on the Jon boat. At the age of 10 he gigged his first flounder in 1986.
Mac so loved the sport that he would flounder gig several nights a week, setting the alarm for the early morning. The real excitement of that each Flounder Gig trip offered a new adventure and will each trip different sights -- from colorful sunsets, to star-filled skies and to marine life in their natural surroundings.
Mac experimented with traditional ways of flounder gigging, while thinking of new innovate ways of finding the fish. After many hours on the water he observed the different habits of the fish -- he soon discovered gigging was directly related to the rise and fall of the moon, the phase of the moon and particular readings of the barometer.
His love for flounder gigging grew over the years. In 2001, he drew up the plans for a 24' Aluminum boat with twelve (12) 500 watt Halogen lights and an Air Fan motor to be able to go at either tide and in gusty conditions.
